I find it really funny that telemarketers are crying that their free speech is being suppressed by the “Do Not Call” list, which is set to be signed into law today by George W. Bush. I love free speech as much as anyone, but with free speech comes respect. I don’t expect law enforcement to keep me on someone’s porch if I’m doing a karaoke routine there. My phone is my porch to the outside world, and the “Do Not Call” list is my “No Trespassing” sign. How am I infringing on a telemarketer’s rights to free speech if I’ve signed up on a national registry to say “stop calling me. I’m not interested. Please don’t make me have to get rude with you. Haven’t you seen my no trespassing sign?”?
