Listening to podcasts

Just got off the phone with a radio-research survey company. They asked me what my favorite radio station was. I told them “I listen to podcasts exclusively”. She was thrown for a loop. I spelled out “podcasts” for her. She asked why. “Because radio has deserted me. I listen to heavier music like thrash metal, but they don’t play it”. I also told her I’m familiar with Arbitron and the other radio research companies, but they never ever send me mail. Too bad. I think the radio stations need to get the message that 20 stations playing the hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and today isn’t going to cut it anymore. There’s choices out there, and I’m exercising mine.

The sad part is that when I worked for a radio station I got calls like this almost monthly. Now that I don’t and am in a position to skew/screw ratings up by getting a diary…. nada. Zip. Nothing.
I don’t listen to normal radio anymore either. Partly for personal reasons, partly because they all suck balls. I’ve considered satellite radio in the past because I’d be able to get my beloved St. Louis Cardinals games, but I can’t justify the cost. I’m happy with my .mp3-playing car stereo, thank you very much.
