Ubuntu Hardy and a Broadcom Chipset

Sat 16 August 2008 | tags: Ubuntu

I recently upgraded JoDee's laptop (A HP ZD7000 series with a broadcom chipset) to Hardy Heron from Gutsy. Unfortunately, JoDee's laptop lost the ability to use wireless at that point, so she had to be tethered in the den with an Ethernet cord. In the interest of putting out new and useful information out on the net instead of the old information that no longer works, I'd like to explain a bit of what I did.

sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

This will download the firmware for the Broadcom card. You'll need this instead of the bcm43-fwcutter packages, because those no longer work with the 2.6.24 kernels that ship with Hardy.

And now you know.
