Designing a Well Lived Life: Checking In (September 2021)

Checking in for September for my "Designing a Well-Lived Life" blogging. This is about making small changes during the year to make larger changes.

  • Work on my game projects at least three times a week: Had a small spell mid-month where I got to things but didn't give this nearly the cycles that I would have liked. I also started feeling like "what's the point" again about it. I need to find the joy and wonder in this instead of thinking of the drudgery and misery that I've associated with this. It also doesn't help that one of the stumbling blocks is learning the whole of LaTeX and design (in my mind, anyway) to do the layout.

  • Meditation and mindfulness: I did better with being mindful, but the meditation piece needs more work. Hopefully I can give this more attention next month.

  • Work with less distractions and more focus on deeper work (Relentlessly prune bullshit): Middling success here. Still finding myself getting distracted but am getting better about not putting too many distractions in front of me during the day.

  • Walk or ride the recumbent bike at least four times a week: No progress this month. Our schedule changed and I've had less opportunities to do any walking or exercising (save for playing drums)

  • Get further out of debt: Making progress on this, but spent entirely too much money on games this month. Need to curb that for next month.

  • Play more games: Did better for this, including playing one of my first convention games at Gencon. Had a blast with this. It was an area of fear in playing with folks that I didn't know beforehand and I really enjoyed the experience in ways I hadn't expected. Going to play another convention game at Origins this weekend and see how that pans out.

  • Spend at least one night a week working on programming projects: No progress.

  • Declutter and make our place more alive: Put some more games up for sale and have done some more decuttering, but need to do more work with this in the coming month.

Pleased with my progress with playing games but hoping for better things related to making games in the coming month. Also looking forward to spending time decluttering and getting our basement to not be a complete shitshow.

Ever onward.
