I know it seems like I'm beating a dead horse here discussing waterfall yet again, but this dead horse still needs a beating since it's still the preferred development methodology where I work and possibly where others work as well. This article gives a clear example of the consequences of waterfall's fatal flaw. The customer doesn't know what they want until they see it in front of them, and can play with it and feel out the rough edges. It's like trying to buy a car from an ad, or buy a painting in a catalog; you don't know what it'll look like until you have it in your hands.
