Breaking News, but not before the commercials

Just watched WXYZ (Channel 7, Detroit)'s afternoon cast, and was appalled. During a "these are cool products" segment (which for all intents and purposes is a paid advertisement), they had a ticker at the bottom of the screen. The ticker was about three elementary schools on lockdown because of an armed robbery at a local 7-11. After the segment, the station went to commercials, did the weather, had an interview about a programming segment later that evening (I believe it's for 20/20), and then a "Dancing with the Stars" update. So, what would be considered "local news" was relegated to a footnote over an advertisement.

And executives wonder why people go to the Internet for news.
