Looks like Galaxy Arcade is no more. This fixture on Gratiot Avenue shut it's doors back in January, but today we finally realized it was gone for good. It's sad to think that the era of stand-alone video game arcades is at an end, but we'll always have the memories (and a few left-over tokens). Over the years, Mario (the owner) recognized JoDee and myself when we went on dates to Galaxy. Over time, you could see that running an arcade was wearing on him. He was happy to see "regulars" coming back to the establishment, but the place was pretty deserted every time we went there.
Will we ever see a hey-day of the arcades again? Perhaps. I thank Galaxy for the very cool games I was introduced to back in the day, for being a cool destination for Dan and myself to head to when we wanted to play some games (even when they were being dicks about the 10pm curfew), and for the many cheap dates JoDee and I had playing video games. Continue? Maybe some day. For now? Looks like the mega arcades will have to provide the arcade fix.
Anybody want to start up an arcade? :)
