Designing a Well Lived Life: Checking In (February 2021)

Checking in for February for my "Designing a Well-Lived Life" blogging. This is about making small changes during the year to make larger changes.

  • Work on my game projects at least three times a week: February was a difficult month for this. I slept in, and this caused me to get a late start on my day. I finally accepted that getting things done in the morning just wasn't going to happen and that seemed to help a lot. Still feeling a little guilty and remorseful about this but also accepting that it happened and it's time to move on and make the best of things. Accept the progress that I did make and work towards making things better.

  • Meditation and mindfulness: Meditation also went out the window when I didn't get up early, but I have been working with being mindful and not letting my mind run rampant. Also worked with being aware of what is on my mind and being OK with that. That's been a big help.

  • Work with less distractions and more focus on deeper work (Relentlessly prune bullshit): February I added more bullshit than removed. That was my own fault, and it's something that I need to work on. I have been able to work with focus though, so that's been helpful.

  • Walk or ride the recumbent bike at least four times a week: Rode the recumbent bike once this month, but haven't walked much outside of some walks in the basement. Also messed up my foot while shoveling or something so walking wasn't something that was in the cards.

  • Get further out of debt: Making more progress on this, though I seemed to find myself getting more packages this month. I think that's in part because shipping was so slow, but also because I was looking for novelty and looking for new things. Going to go shopping on my own shelves for novelty rather than picking things up.

  • Play more games: Didn't do as well this past month, in part because we got busy. Going to give this more attention this month.

  • Spend at least one night a week working on programming projects: Pfft. My programming is mostly work at this point. I have zero desire to do any extra-curricular programming right now. Wondering when the muse will hit again, but not going to get all worried about it at the moment.

  • Declutter and make our place more alive: Made some small progress with shredding, but overall little change on this front.

This month felt like treading water. Definitely feeling disconnected and like the month was to be endured rather than enjoyed. Still feeling creative with my projects, but that's the extent of it.

Here's to better months ahead.
