Designing a Well Lived Life: Checking In (2023 December)

Checking in for December for my "Designing a Well-Lived Life" blogging. This is about making small changes during the year to make larger changes.

This will be a wrap-up for 2023 and will introduce my intentions for 2024.

  • Release a storyworld into the wild: I've been working on the engine for creating storyworlds (Hearsay) but haven't done much with releasing a storyworld into the wild. Hoping to give this some attention in 2024.

  • Learn more programming for the Atari machines to get more comfortable creating for them: I made some progress here over the year but lately this fell by the wayside. I'll hopefully pick this back up in 2024.

  • Finish up or hand-off the Pepper&Carrot RPG: This month I made some more progress. Overall I'm quite happy with the progress I've made this year. I went from thinking this project would never be completed to actually making headway with this. There's still more to do as far as layout and what-not it's not nearly as far away as it felt at the beginning of this year.

  • Update the Pepper&Carrot Wiki: This also got some love this year. There's still more to do and more to document but overall I'm happy with the results.

  • Write / Blog more about what's going on: If any of these can be called a resounding success it's this one. I've been blogging pretty consistently about not only my health but also items on my mind and other far-reaching items. Expect this to continue.

  • Work on getting more healthy and as cancer-free as possible: This one was a mixed bag. Overall my health took a downward trend with the Lonsurf I was taking. We'll see how the new drugs work out. Also the cancer is still growing. Hoping for good news on this front this year.

  • Meditate: No progress here.

  • Declutter, simplify, and focus on the essential: This got some attention this year. I've removed a lot of cruft in my life. Unfortunately there is way more to do. This is going to be a slow, multi-year task.

  • Relax my frustrations and be more accepting of things as they are: I'm still not there yet. I still get frustrated and lose my cool more often than not. I've made some headway here but there is still more to do.

  • Continue removing debt: Still making progress here but also realizing there is more work to be done. But I can see the end.

  • Hang up my hangups - allow myself to be more creative and playful: Wow, this one is way harder than it first appears. I can overthink anything, including having fun. Need to do more work with this.

So, there you have it. These were my intentions for 2023. Overall I'm happy with what happened but feeling there is more work to be done. Without further ado, here's the list for 2024:

  • Exercise and work on getting more healthy and as cancer-free as possible: This is my number one priority for 2024. Honestly I didn't think I'd make it this far with cancer so I need to make what remains of my life the healthiest I can manage.

  • Release a storyworld into the wild: This remains a priority.

  • Learn more programming for the Atari machines to get more comfortable creating for them: Still something I want to do.

  • Finish up or hand-off the Pepper&Carrot RPG: I'm hoping to have this actually finished this year.

  • Update the Pepper&Carrot Wiki: There are many undocumented areas that need documenting. This is in tandem with the RPG.

  • Meditate: I think this might be the crux of a lot of issues I'm having. Need to give this some focus.

  • Declutter, simplify, and focus on the essential: See above.

  • Relax my frustrations and be more accepting of things as they are: Boy howdy this is evergreen for me.

  • Continue removing debt: I want to see the end of this.

  • Hang up my hangups - allow myself to be more creative and playful: I want more play.

Ever onward.
