Checking in: last week my intention was to narrow my focus down to one single passion project and give it the attention that it deserves. That went partially OK. I chose to read the Mythic Game Master Emulator, Second Edition first thing in the morning for one focus session. Some mornings that was easier than others. There's still the draw of wanting to check email to see what happened from the previous day. There's also the draw of wanting to see what happened overnight since I was last on social media. This is a habit that I've long wanted to break, and it's proving more challenging than I would like.
This week is going to feature my "semi-social" challenge, where I'm not going to review social media until pre-determined times. I practiced with this over the weekend and realized my normal flow for social media is more like 9:00, 13:00, and 19:00 (9am, 1pm, and 7pm). I also noticed that hanging out on social media late-night is also something that I enjoy, but at the expense of wanting to go to bed. Need to figure out of that's something I want to allow or if that's an anti-pattern. We'll see as the challenge progresses.
What I did notice is that I found other things to do, such as checking out online RPG applications like Fari and Iron Journal . I also checked out Tabletop Simulator again. I want to like this application but the interface feels like something to be conquered rather than something to to be enjoyed. That and most of the modules on there have aged out (apparently making your assets rely on Google Drive, Dropbox, and other third-party hosting is not a sustainable solution for long-term preservation. Who knew?). I also wrote a song. I'm wondering what other creativity has been hampered by wanting to argue with people on the internet.
I think my main week focus will be handling the semi-social challenge and noticing what comes up. I'll still be working on projects (right now I'm thinking that the Pepper&Carrot Wiki needs some serious love). I'm feeling a little uncertainty towards this choice but at least it's a choice. Plus I can work on other things as well.
More to come.
