Checking in for 2023-11-12:
- Spent the morning thinking about how to reorganize the Pepper&Carrot RPG. While the Nip'ajin template that I'm using has been helpful I think it's time for me to excise it from my project. I'm starting to fight it more than I care to and I need to figure out what is going on inside of this project with as clean of a slate as I can. I made a separate branch for this so hopefully if I get too far into the weeds I can roll back and figure out something else that works. There's nothing wrong with the templates that the Nip'ajin project licensed out (there's quite good and got me far) but they're at a level of LaTeX competency that I'm not quite able to grasp right now and they do some things that I think are not going to work long-term for this project. I've been putting this off and putting this off and now it's time to get serious about it and start figuring out the formatting.
- Speaking of which I'm also looking to work on the formatting for several of my other projects as well. I've also been putting this off in the hopes that I could find someone else who has done the work. Guess what? I already did some of this work with my book The Mediocre Programmer so I have a worked example. I keep forgetting what I went through to make that book and it's a reminder that I should look at my own code repositories first before assuming someone else has figured this out better. (That said, the work did come from someone else's work, which sadly I have lost the link. I'll find it again and give them full credit for it).
- This is bringing up some fears because I'm not as comfortable with LaTeX and am worried I'm going to break things in ways that I can't recover. I'm also not "a designer" so I don't have the design experience to make things pretty like some folks. But I know I won't release crap if I can avoid it and I know that I can usually debug things and find enough resources online to fix whatever might come my way so this is a red herring issue. I can make something work.
- I still remain nonplussed by modern classical music.
